LD39 — Running out of Power

Fluff Factory by Simple Ghost 2017-07-31T22:04:05Z

The graphics are beautiful and the whole layout of the lab is well done. The humor works, but there's also a forboding undertone in the background, and I appreciate the mix. It's like if Trouble with Tribbles took place in a nuclear bunker.

The gameplay was interesting at first, but ran its course for me by the time I sold my first battery. I would have enjoyed it more if each food/water source was a full refill instead of 1/10th, and if upgrading your fluffs made more of a difference. As it is, it feels a lot more micromanage-y than it needs to be. If this were an intentional satire of pet ownership I would retract that criticism.

The graphics here are very nice and I liked the music. Fighting sheep in video games will always be funny to me, though I like how you turned that around by making them tougher further in. Overall it seems balanced, though I was taken off guard by respawning enemies. I suppose that makes sense given you're meant to retrace your steps.

It seemed a bit unfair to me how you only have three directions to shoot but enemies can come at you from any direction. Also how you can't shoot on ladders, but these are pretty minor complaints. The main feature I felt was lacking was some kind of shortcut or shortcuts from the cave. The respawning creatures made it a bit less boring but didn't make it interesting enough in my opinion.

The finish line is around .33 furlongs in. It's very hard to reach, though, because I didn't have a lot of time to playtest and made some hasty changes last minute. A lot of this was a crap shoot to be honest. I agree with you about the collision boxes.

I did have the red room from Twin Peaks in mind.

Can you explain what each of the blocks do? I can't figure it out.

Pylon Pressure by fazz 2017-07-31T20:13:20Z

I hope you keep going with this one because I feel like there's a lot of potential here. The city looks great (it reminds me of those streetmap rugs everyone had as kids), but with a bit of animation I think it would look amazing. Even though the puzzle was pretty simple, I wanted to go back and try different things to see how it would affect the letters.

On the other hand, the sound effects were too harsh and there wasn't enough of a graphical distinction between the areas you could place pylons and those you couldn't.
