Retro feeling is through the roof. Fun game! I think the ball's SFX is gonna live rent-free in my head.
I found the gameplay really addictive. I kept trying, but never quite made it to 5000. Maybe next time :)
The graphical style is pretty cool. Kind of like vector shapes downscaled to pixels and then each pixel getting an almost Windows-95-esque tiling pattern, with lots of funky pallet swaps. The game itself isn't too difficult once you get used to how the trajectories land, and in particular, it doesn't seem like there's any kind of difficulty ramp. Once you get good enough, you could probably keep going forever. But it was neat learning the ropes, and the occasional screen wrap jumps were pretty challenging.
Haven't tried any of your other Ludum Dare games, but also cool this is the fourth game (on the current site) in a "zilla" series.
@sudocoffee Thank you for playing! And for getting that far, nice!!
Glad you got a hang on the controls. As you figured out that's kinda all there is. The platforms are actually getting slightly slimmer the higher you get but it's clamped so they don't become too small. Wrap jumps are fun, maybe the best feature I added.
I use my game framework ZillaLib for all my game jam entries so whenever I'm not feeling too fancy I just name my games SOMETHING-Zilla :-)
It all started with Bowzilla in 2004, followed by Pengzilla in 2005, and even a short lived commercial release on the App store when that was new. There was Rockzilla, Cavezilla, Hexzilla, and many many more. I just checked my directory for game jams and prototypes and there's over 50 games in there with a -zilla ending 😄
There is an (old) homepage for [ZillaLib](https://zillalib.github.io/games/) with some games, but not a whole lot. I quite like LazerMaze and Puzilla. Maybe it would be fun to just add them all. I'm sure people are eager to find out what Spinzilla or Omnizilla is 😆
