Heads up, I had same issue with the Ludum Dare website. I had to go into the folder where the gamename.html was, change it to index.html, and then compress to zip from within the folder. That kept the .zip file from having an extra html folder in there.
You can also probably upload the HTML to the itch page, alternatively.
As others have stated, try renaming the html file to index.html and you should be able to get it up and running in browser. Best of luck!
