Yay, piano sounds!
The rare LD game that actually takes a while to finish, this one took me 431 seconds, apparently.
The platformer itself is fun, the levels are designed well enough. You could work on the mechanics a little for next time, the jumping in particular feels weak, like the character is just stuck on the ground. The theme mechanic is - well, to be fair, it was a terrible theme :laughing:
@indigo Thank you for playing and leaving some feedback!
This definitely turned out as being a bit longer than I originally thought it would be, and in a good way. Even knowing how to beat the game I don't think I have managed to get below four minutes.
The jumping is deliberately weak for three reasons: - Having a low jump and high gravitational pull increased the game difficulty and made it a lot more satisfying when you get a jump right - Giving the player a jump of only two blocks allowed for better level design, personally I hate making platformers where the player shoots up across the screen and easily makes it over several blocks - Many games from the NES/Famicom era had odd jumping physics (namely: Ice Climber), so it seemed fitting to give the player a mildly difficult jump
Or maybe it's a low jump because of my love of difficult platformers and hatred of how nowadays most platformers don't have that same feel as the classics :sweat_smile:
The theme being garbage is certainly more than just a joke this time around.... personally I loathe themes that are mechanics, I'm not looking forward to having to rate a lot of stressful games.
Really cute game! The graphics are nice and the auditory feedback is great. I really enjoyed the jokes! It was a bit counter-intuitive that you need to use X at the same time as the earthquake happens to charge the magic (figured it out by accident), and its a bit brutal with the timing needing you to hit it almost perfectly. Other than that its a lovely game!
@gamejmunk Thank you for playing!
I made it so you have to specifically use your magic when the earthquake happens so that you wouldn't be randomly stopping, and if you gained magic automatically that would be confusing and a tad boring. In retrospect it gets a little tedious near the end of the game if you have not been saving up energy prior to the mountain :sweat_smile:
A hint for when to cast the mage powers: the best timing for gaining magic is after when the countdown says 1, the earth mage powers conveniently last for exactly a second :wink:
