Interesting beginning, but the sound effects are very grating.

Interesting beginning, but the sound effects are very grating.
I like the concept but I think you should have a volume control the sound effects are pretty loud.
Sorry to say that, but I'm a little confused by your game. I'm kinda stuck at day 7 and I lose all the time although I have like half my live left. Can't progress any further, so I have to base my review up until that point.
The graphics and the background music is nice. The controls are in general ok. So, good job on that part. However, here are now some things that could be improved: * First of all my problem from the start. I don't know why I'm losing. You should always show the player why they are failing at your game. Otherwise they can't get better at it. * The sound effects are super weird and not fitting at all. I don't know where you got them from, but clicking around with bfxr or something similar should get you some fitting sound effects https://www.bfxr.net/ * The physics system for your enemies is weird because the faster enemies (katana dudes) are pushing the slower ones towards the player, which overwhelms you very fast. * I don't know why you have the well in the middle, but I would remove it and give the player the whole play area to move around. * The delay for shooting feels completely off. Stuff like shooting and jumping are things that in a fast paced game have to happen immediately when the player performs them. I know that you have a nice shooting animation, but in this game it would be better to shorten it to give the game more responsiveness. * I'm not really sure how buying health and attack alters the game, because I have no real connection to how much damage I get from the enemies (maybe a damage popup and a number for the health would help) and I have no idea if I shoot faster or stronger, with the attack upgrade. Everything was a oneshot, so stronger would not make sense to me.
Anyway. Please don't see my feedback as negative and use it to improve this game and future games you are working on. You can be very proud of you to finish the game within the time. It will always have some flaws, like my games have too, but that's what you get for having a time limit. It's important to finish, have fun and improve.
Fun idea. But like @backurio wrote I didn't know why i was keep losing when my health meter was almost full.
I like the idea and the start of the game with the "enemy menu" is well thought. The shooting mechanic is well developped, fluid and logical, good job !
If you could improve a bit I think it would be on the clarity of the occult chamber that I didn't quite understand and with some level design because I found that the easier way to go by with levels was running in circles while shooting at everything, which is fun but not very varied and leaves no place to strategic aiming.
The sound design is put in the right place and well thought with a different popping sound for each enemy, but I personally found the 'citizen' noise annoying.
Overall I think your game is a solid entry with some room for improvement.
Hi @backurio ! First of all thank you for taking the time to write the comment, we really appreciate it! This is what we will be addressing first (which doesn't mean we won't pay attention to the other points made):
-The problem with the health bar is our bad, it's a bug which we are currently working on fixing.
-About the sound effects, the first thing we will be doing is lowering the volume a bit as that has been both an irl complaint and one raised by another commenter.
Again, this doesn't mean we won't be addressing the others, just that those two are the priority. And yes, we really did have fun and we are greatful for the feedback :)
Hello @dmtroy thanks for writing the comment. We will be lowering the volume of the sound effects.
Thanks for the feedback!
Hi @gnocchi we are glad you think our game is solid :)
Could you please explain what you mean by "clarity of the occult chamber"? We are not sure what it means but would like to fix it.
About the ‘citizen’ noise, we will be lowering the volume of the sound effects.
We may address other things in the future, but at the moment we are working on the health bar and the sounds.
Thank you for checking out our game and leaving a comment!
@alex-iova Hello again ! About the cult room which I wrongly qualified as "occult chamber" (sorry), By improving its clarity I meant the meaning of the central zone in particular.
I think I understood at first glance that you have to pay with the soul count you have on the left. But what I find not clear is *what it is for*. If i spend it in "attack", do I get a one shot boost of my damages for the next level or an active "attack" like a temporary new ability, does it permanently increase my attack value (if so, where can I find this attack value). The same questions arise for the "health" item to buy : is it a special boost for next level, a healing for my remaining life, a max health modifier. I assumed that they both were definitive max health and damages modifiers, but as there are no gauges or values shown on the cult room nor new features or values on the 'recruitment' screen, I still didn't know what it was for.
Voilà, hope this feedback will help you !
@backurio thanks for the explanation!
We will be considering it :)
