Managed to generate some kind of a soldier-train :D This was a fun little city-builder, good job! Maybe add more difficulty to enemies and some sounds? These soldiers seem to be a little bit too op also but other than that good job! 761db6083dfb59151eb4f408bbb5b44f[1].png And gratz on making it into LudumDare! (Tip: you should vote other people's games to get your game more noticed)

It took me a bit to figure out how everything is balanced (and why I was dying), but its a nice little game.

As you mentioned, the balance is a little wonky. I found that I either died within the first minute or could go on pretty much forever.

It looks like you can't rebuild on a square that got its building destroyed? Also, is there any way to direct soldiers or is it essentially placing the barracks strategically?

Hey, yeah, thanks for playing!. Essentially it is Barracks placed strategically and an auto-targeting system. I have a version I have been working on since, with more balance and depth to it here if you wanna check it out: https://rmleverton.itch.io/life-is-cheap-unrestricted

It took an me a round and a death to figure out what I was doing, but after that I was quickly able to have all my resources steadily climbing with no goal or challenge in site. When a building is destroyed, I can't seem to place a new building in the spot any more. Maybe that is part of the challenge?

One tip, for a jam a randomly generated map is usually a bad idea (I've done it myself a few times). The problem is, it takes at least as long to randomly generate maps as it does to make a decent map by hand, and most people won't play the game enough to get any benefit from randomly generated maps. That way you can have one, hand crafted map that lends itself better to the game play for the one or maybe two times that someone will play your game.

Still, nice job for a first jam. I can see with a bit more depth and balance this could be a fun little game.

I just kept amassing more and more soldiers and it seemed no enemies were coming. Once everything starts going it seems impossible to lose but that is just a matter of balancing some numbers. Overall it worked well, just needed a little more strategy in the game to make it more engaging. Congrats on your first entry.
