Trying the contest out for the first time! I don't expect to do much this time but will give it a shot. I'm more experienced with writing than actual game design, so maybe something text focused. Tools? Unity, GIMP, OpenGameArt.
Here's my idea: You're a spirit trying to help your people in various villages. But the more villages that count on you, the harder it is to satisfy them. So far I've got a sphere that moves around and boosts a number on any "village" it's near, with constantly declining numbers for each. A central tracker shows the average rating of every village you're responsible for, currently just the middle one. 20171201shattered_spirit.jpg
20171202shattered_spirit.jpg Besides decoration, I've got a gravity pull from the villages. Villages start draining Belief when you're away and they have a miracle to request. You fulfill requests by going to a village and hitting Space. Do a good job and more villages start making demands, lowering your average belief level. It's game over if you fall below 20% average! Next up is to have several types of miracles so you have to hit the right key, I think, and maybe some incentive to go chasing after artifacts or something instead of always hanging around town.

Terrain, sound, spells, and a Dark Spirit for those who win over the fantasy village of Edmunton! (No really, it's spelled differently.)

Second playable demo is out once I upload it in a few minutes! New landscape, gameplay tweaks, and better graphics. I still want to add some new gameplay feature but am not sure what. Artifacts to collect? Some final thingy to do on the central empty island?
I got the thing to build again and a new demo is up. I've had to return to the basic Unity water and turn the villages back into boring cylinders, so that needs fixing tomorrow, but it's otherwise playable.

Rotation of the view would have been nice.. maybe q & e buttons? But other than that, nice little game
@McFish : Thanks!
I wasn't able to do rotation of the camera in time, but I got a finished game up! Fixed the build problems from last night and added a little feature. It looks pretty much like the last screenshot. (I tried fancy water but it slows down the WebGL build too much.)
Thanks, everyone, for getting me into Ludum Dare! It's been fun.
I really enjoyed this game :-) I was able to work around not being able to rotate the camera... the mini-map was a life saver. It was really hard keeping all the villages happy
@meanmon13 : Thanks! Maybe I'll improve on it later. Good to hear some people enjoyed it.
