Cool game. I really like the player sprite and how it moved (I love how its tile based since you don't see that often anymore). As someone else has mentioned before I really like the direction this game goes in. I don't know the original story but I think its pretty interesting to base your game on folklore. Maybe a little bit mroe explanation on the mechanics of the game would have been nice. I assume I got to the end but I'm still not sure what blocks my path and what doesn't. Also one small nitpick is that the player sprite is always on top of the screen and sits above the other sprites which looked a little weird. Perhaps look into layering your sprites if you continue working on this.
